Also, pack your trash out diligently. The bear really doesn't want to deal with you, despite his looks. Give him no reason to force the issue. Most important: never, ever, ever try to outrun a bear. You will lose the race. Never corner a bear either. Make a lot of noise when you are home. When I lived back into the woods I often wore a cowbell. My place was broken into once, by raccoons. They made a big mess also. The clue was the footprints around the toilet seat. All you can do is the best you can. There's a lot of web information on dealing with bears, too.
