http://dnasab.net/2013/03/ Looking over John McPhee’s masterful essay Atchafalaya – which if you’ve never read you should just go and do – I am struck by the improvements made by our computers’ optical-recognition software. Presumably the New Yorker will fix this at some point, so we must enjoy these nuggets while we can:
Barysh Very early in the morning, a low fog had covered the fields. The sun, just above the horizon, was large and ruddy in the mist, rising slowly, like a hot-air baboon.
McPhee is fabulous, but no one is expecting him to have been great enough to come up with “rising slowly, like a hot-air baboon” without electronic assistance.
